Advisory Board

Enverity has successfully recruited a sophisticated and experienced team of advisors in those dimensions deemed most strategic to secure success both for Enverity and Enverity clients:

Dr. Arthur Laffer; Chairman of Laffer Associates, an economic research and consulting firm. Dr. Laffer serves on the Board of Directors of Vivendi Environment, the worldwide leader in environmental services, and is also a Director of US Filter, a subsidiary of Vivendi Environment. Dr. Laffer was a member of President Reagan's Economic Policy Advisory Board from 1982-1989. In 1984 he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Reagan/Bush Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Reagan Executive Advisory Committee for the 1980 Presidential Race. Earlier in his career he was Chief Economist at the Office of Management and Budget and a consultant to the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Defense. He received his BA in Economics from Yale and an MBA and Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford.

Eugene Smithart; Former Director, Environmental Affairs, The Trane Company. Mr. Smithart is a 30-year HVAC industry veteran who joined Trane as a member of the 1973-II Graduate Engineer Training Program. He has spent time in the field and at Trane headquarters, where he advanced through a number of managerial positions (including, but not limited to, Manager of the Customer Direct Systems department, Manager of Building Management Systems and Manager of Systems Marketing). He is highly respected throughout the industry for his efforts toward a CFC-Free nation. Mr. Smithart has published numerous articles, frequently works directly with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recently participated in a congressional briefing in Washington D.C. on Global Warming. He is one of only 5 people in the world, and the only non-scientist, to have received the U.S. EPA's highest environmental award; the Climate Protection Award. Mr. Smithart served with the U.S. Marine Corps, 1965-1968, after which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin.

Mary Gade; Ms. Gade is the current Regional Administrator for the U.S. EPA’s Region V. She is the former Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (1991 to 1999), where she supervised a staff of 1,400. Ms. Gade is an Adjunct Scholar in Environmental Policy for Reason Public Policy Institute. She is also a partner in the environmental practice group in the law firm of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in Chicago, Illinois, where her work includes litigation, regulatory affairs, and compliance counseling. She was a founder of the Environmental Council of States (ECOS) and has served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of this organization. In addition, she served as Chair of the Ozone Transport Assessment Group (OTAG), a 37-member organization of states charged with studying the phenomena of ozone transport and recommending solutions to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). In 1997, Ms. Gade was recognized as Public Official of the Year, by Governing magazine, due in part to her leadership of the OTAG effort. In 1998, Ms. Gade was selected as one of ten women across the nation celebrating achievement by women in government by Good Housekeeping magazine and the Rutgers University Eagleton Institute of Politics. Prior to her service as Director of IEPA, Gade served 13 years at USEPA, most recently as Deputy Assistant Administrator for Solid Waste and Emergency Response in Washington, D.C. She also held several positions at USEPA's Region V Office in Chicago including Associate Division Director for Superfund and Deputy Director of Region V's Waste Management Division. Gade received her law degree in 1977 from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, and her undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and Italian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Lauren Liss; Ms. Liss is an attorney with the Regulatory Department of the Boston law firm Rubin and Rudman, where she practices in the areas of environmental law and policy, land use, transportation, regulatory compliance and administrative law. Ms. Liss served as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection from 1999 to 2003, where she headed development, implementation and enforcement of air, water, waste and site cleanup policy for the Commonwealth, as well as managed a $110 million annual budget and staff of 1100 employees. Prior to that, Ms. Liss served as General Counsel and Deputy Secretary for Environmental Policy at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation and Construction, and as Senior Environmental Counsel at the Big Dig. She previously was a Junior Partner at a large Boston law firm where she specialized in environmental compliance counseling, zoning and land use, transactional work and litigation for clients including corporations, developers, financial institutions, manufacturers, municipalities and individuals. Ms. Liss holds a JD, cum laude, from The Boston University School of Law, and an AB, cum laude, from Bryn Mawr College where she also received Departmental Honors in Political Science. She has authored numerous articles and participated in various panels, conferences and seminars for federal, state and local environmental groups, bar associations, and other environmental, business, industry and municipal organizations. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.

Alan Naumann; Former President and CEO of Calico Commerce, a publicly-traded e-commerce infrastructure company based in San Jose, CA. Mr. Naumann has more than 17 years of technology management experience in both the software and computer industries. Prior to joining Calico in 1997, Mr. Naumann served in a number of key executive and vice presidential roles at Cadence Design Systems. During his 10 years with Cadence, Mr. Naumann helped drive and/or implement many of the company's 16 mergers and acquisitions. While at Cadence, Mr. Naumann lead large teams by serving as Divisional VP and General Manager, VP of Field Operations and VP of Sales in Japan. Mr. Naumann spent his early years with industry giant Hewlett-Packard, holding key positions in the computer business sector, regional field operations and the Corporate Computer Strategy group. Mr. Naumann received a degree in electrical engineering and computer science with honors and distinction from Iowa State University.

Kevin Jones; Mr. Jones is a co-founder of Net Market Makers, a leading provider of information, analysis, resources and connections to the people who build and grow B2B infrastructure, commerce, and services companies, as well as to the broader community of investors, technology service providers and others who facilitate this growth. In April 2000, Jupiter Communications acquired Net Market Makers. Kevin now also serves as a Senior Technology Analyst for Jupiter Communications. NMM has worked with closely with entrepreneurs in propelling early success stories such as VerticalNet, Ariba, CommerceOne, Ventro and others. Kevin plays a central role in the community of market makers, investors, and suppliers by speaking and moderating at industry events, and is considered broadly to be an authority on the areas of B2B infrastructure, commerce, and services. Kevin is a contributing columnist at Forbes ASAP and Inter@ctive Week, and he writes for The New York Times Online.

Crawford Tuttle; Mr. Tuttle recently served as the Deputy Secretary for the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) as a chief architect of Cal/EPA's regulatory reform and improvement initiatives. At the agency, Mr. Tuttle's management responsibilities included oversight of its 4,000 employees and annual budget of $800 million. While at Cal/EPA, the Agency was recognized as a leading innovator in environmental protection and was twice recognized by the Harvard University-Ford Foundation Innovations in American Government Awards program. Currently, Mr. Tuttle is an Advisory Board Member and Director of Business Development for Source Healthcare, Inc., a web development, e-commerce and content service provider to the healthcare industry. Prior to joining the Cal/EPA, Mr. Tuttle acted as California Governor Pete Wilson's principal liaison with the United States Congress, Clinton Administration, state governors' offices, and other stakeholders regarding all environmental and natural resource management issues. Prior to the State of California, he served both President Clinton and President Bush at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) overseeing natural resource and environmental protection programs. In addition to his work at OMB, Mr. Tuttle was a legislative assistant on Capital Hill for six years. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and was awarded his Masters of Arts degree (with Distinction) from Georgetown University.

Stanley J. Garstka; Dr. Garstka is currently Deputy Dean of the Yale School of Management. He is also a Professor in the Practice of Management and considered an expert in the bankruptcy process. His other areas of focus include contemporary issues in accounting and the practice of active investing (MBOs, LBOs, IPOs, etc.). Professor Garstka sits on the Board of Directors of MBA Enterprise Corps, Danielson Holding Corporation, and the New Haven Enterprise Center. He received an A.B. from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. and M.S.I.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Stefan Thomke; Dr. Stefan Thomke is a Professor at Harvard Business School (Associate Professor in Technology and Operations Management, and Product Development Management) and Faculty Chairman of the Executive Education Program Leading Product Development. He has been published in several prominent journals such as California Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Management Science, Research Policy, and Scientific American. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering, a S.M. degree in Operations Research, a S.M./ MBA degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Management from MIT, where he was awarded a Lemelson-MIT doctoral fellowship for invention and innovation research. Prior to joining Harvard Business School, Professor Thomke worked in the electronics and semiconductor industries and later was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Germany.

Judy Freitag; Judy Freitag is the Compliance Manager in the Environmental Services Department at Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), which provides electricity service to over 70 percent of Illinois. ComEd is now part of the family of companies owned by the Exelon Corporation, one of the nation's largest utility services companies. In addition to compliance concerns in the energy delivery business, her responsibilities include pollution prevention and stewardship activities. Ms. Freitag has held previous positions including Acting Supervisor of Water Quality, Supervisor of Air Quality and project lead for waste management. She is a past Board member of the Air & Waste Management Association and is a certified environmental auditor and "qualified environmental engineer." Ms. Freitag has worked in the environmental field for 22 years, 15 of which have been with ComEd. Previously, she was employed with Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America in the environmental and energy research areas. Ms. Freitag has a BS in Zoology and MS in Environmental engineering from the University of Iowa.

Richard F. Lawson, Jr.; President and CEO of Found.Com, a venture-backed software infrastructure company based in San Francisco. Mr. Lawson has extensive experience particularly in Internet financial advisory and technology investment banking. Mr. Lawson has held senior management positions with a number of leading financial advisory and underwriting firms, including Warburg Dillon Read LLC (the investment banking unit for UBS AG), Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Most recently, he managed the West Coast Internet practice and served as a Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Technology Investment Banking Division for Warburg Dillon Read LLC. Mr. Lawson currently serves on the boards of private venture-backed Internet companies as well as being a regular resource for the press as an authority in the Internet and e-commerce areas. Mr. Lawson received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College.

P.J. Simmons; Founding Executive Director, The Greener Business Education Project, a new non-profit project that publishes The Greener Business Guide. Mr. Simmons has spent ten years in Washington working on a range of environmental and other global issues. Since 1997, Mr. Simmons has directed the Managing Global Issues project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he is currently finishing a book, Managing Global Issues: What Works? (Forthcoming, Spring 2001). Previously, Simmons founded the Environmental Change and Security Project (ECSP) at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in 1994, and raised $1.5 million in public and private sector funding while directing the ECSP. His publications include articles in several edited books and in Foreign Policy magazine. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was educated at Tufts University (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Johns Hopkins SAIS (Olmsted Fellow).

Jeremy Wolfe; Mr. Wolfe is a Principal at ABS Capital Partners, a private equity firm with $1.4 billion under management that invests in software/services companies in the enterprise, communications, and healthcare markets. Prior to joining ABS, Jeremy was the Chief Financial Officer at Found, Inc., an enterprise software company providing inventory management solutions to major retailers and manufacturers. Before that, he worked at Goldman Sachs in both the High Tech Principal Investment and Technology Investment Banking groups, where he focused on companies in the enterprise and infrastructure software sector and specialized in venture investment and equity and M&A transactions. He began his investment career in the investment banking division at Robertson, Stephens & Co. Before entering investment banking, Jeremy spent five years at Intel Corporation in systems and supplier management.

Martin Chavez; Mr. Chavez is currently a Vice President at one of Wall Street's leading Investment Banks, providing Mergers and Strategic Advisory Services to leading multinational corporations. Prior to his current responsibilities, Mr. Chavez worked in the Principal Investment Area of the Bank focusing on technology and telecommunications investments. He is currently an active investment professional monitoring one of the firm's IT Services investments. Mr. Chavez' M&A experience includes working in a variety of different industries including Building Products, Business Services, Consumer Products, Food and Beverage, Internet, and Telecommunications. He also spent several years at 3M Corporation in the areas of manufacturing consulting, process re-engineering and systems engineering. Mr. Chavez holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
